The Glencadam distillery in the Burgh of Brechin has passed through several ownerships since it was founded by George Cooper in 1825 - including Hiram Walker, Ballantine’s and Allied Domecq - before being sold to current owners, Angus Dundee Plc in 2003. A working water wheel was re-installed in the heart of Glencadam Distillery, a nod back to how the distillery was powered back in 1825. It is used in blends such as Stewart’s Cream of the Barley and Ballantine’s, but has also produced a number of official bottlings since 2010. Angus Dundee’s blending lab is now located at the distillery, and under the helm of master blender, Iain Forteath, Glencadam is slowly emerging as a popular single malt in its own right.
