Balmenach 1973 Dun Eideann Cask #9873

Winning bid: £180
Founded in 1824, the Balmenach whisky distillery is located in the middle of the Speyside, between Grantown-on-Spey and Bridge of Avon. Highly prized for blending, Balmenach uses a worm tub to achieve a ‘meaty’ aspect seldom seen in modern Speyside whiskies. The signature malt in Inver House’s Hanky Bannister blend, there are no official bottlings of Balmenach but it is bottled as a single malt, and called Deerstalker. In 2009, the distillery began production of Caorunn gin which has become one of the biggest super-premium gins in the UK.
