William Grant founded Balvenie distillery in 1892 using the 18th century mansion known as Balvenie New House. It is built just below Glenfiddich, sharing its Robbie Dhu springs water source. The distillery still uses its own floor maltings and locally-sourced peat.
Only 94 casks were released of this unusual Balvenie. Master blender, David Stewart, selected aged Balvenie for a further maturation of six months in casks that had previously held Islay Single Malt. The result is a rich honeyed Speysider, with a delicate hint of peat.
