The 129th Auction

Spring has well and truly sprung and what better way to welcome in the lighter nights than with a bottle of something special from our bumper 129^th auction. Despite some wicked weather conditions, we have managed to gather up more than 9000 bottles for you to choose from, and to help with your browsing we’ve picked out a few lots which have caught our eye this month.

From the oldest (well, officially at least) distillery on Islay we have an exceptionally rare bottle which is guaranteed to be fought over this month. This Bowmore 1964 35 Year Old Single Cask #3709 is one of only 99 bottles produced and the dark unctuous liquid contained within has had us salivating. We’ve only auctioned this once before in over 10 years which gives you some idea of its rarity, if this is one you’re after then brace yourself for a tussle to win it.

Continuing the theme of old distilleries next up is an interesting bottle from a much revered but now silent distillery which was arguably the oldest licensed distillery in Scotland while it was in operation. This Littlemill 1990 23 Year Old for Wealth Solutions represents a bottle of liquid history in every sense and was bottled by Polish investment group Wealth Solutions, whose eye for rare and exclusive bottlings is impressive.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has been bottling fantastic single malts for almost 40 years, but this lot is special even for them. The SMWS 26 Malts 26 x 50cl set was commissioned by pairing 26 leading designers with 26 writers, each pairing receiving their own single cask bottling, the end result being 26 label designs and 26 sets of bespoke tasting notes. To see all 26 malts together in one lot is rare and offers the chance to add a full set of something extra special to your collection.

This month hosts many special SMWS bottlings yet the most special may be this Macallan 16 Years Old Chinese New Year 2019 Edition. One of 169 bottles released and exceptionally hard to get your hands on ! Captioned as "Nature's Nectar" we believe this one of a kind , cask strength titan could be the perfect dram to enjoy as the flowers begin to blossom.
