Winning bid: £45

Mitchell & Sons were a merchant family who began trading in Dublin 1805. Their original brand of ‘Spot’ was last seen around the 1960’s and is the inspiration behind this bottling. The name comes from the family practice of marking their casks with a different colored painted spot to signify the age of the whisky in the cask.

This is the first single pot still Irish Whiskey to be finished in Bordeaux wine casks. And not just any old Bordeaux casks, let us tell you! There is a very special shared bond between Ireland and France here. The winery where the casks come from is Château Léoville Barton, a relation of the Irish wine geese winemaker, Thomas Barton. Thomas’ relations still run the Chateau to this day, making this is a wonderful celebration of the international shared heritage between the countries.

The whiskey is matured in Bourbon and Sherry casks, before being transferred into casks previously filled with wine from the famed Chateau Montelena.
