This Cavendish Vintage 1949 Port (Vin de Liqueur) is a South African fortified wine and not a true Portuguese Port.

It has been produced in the Cape region of South Africa in a Port style with similar grapes and techniques being used. South African producers have historically made fortified wines, but are unable to legally use the term “Port” for export as this is protected under the Portuguese designation.
