The Lantenhammer distillery in Bavaria is, in no small part, the result of a bet. Founder Florian Stetter, after a few drams on a visit to Speyside in 1994, bet a crate of Bavarian wheat beer that he would distil whisky in Bavaria. True to his word, in 2007 the bottles of Slyrs single malt was released for sale.
Sild is the historic name of the island of Sylt and it is the home of this unique whisky. With the barley and water coming from Sylt, the spirit was then distilled at the Slyrs distillery.
