Winning bid: £35

Originally a South Ayrshire cattle farm, Lochlea pivoted to barley growing with the aim of estabilishing a distillery and finally began producing spirit in 2018. An independent and family owned distillery, Lochlea benefits from the expertise of ex-Laphroaig distillery manager John Campbell, who oversees the production of this elegant and fruity spirit. Lochlea is steeped in history, the barley is grown in the same fields once worked by illustrious former tenant Robert Burns, and their inaugural release hit the market on the 25th of January in his honour. Driven by a field to cask philosophy and unburdened by an inflexible corporate structure Lochlea has positioned itself as a progressive and responsive distillery with the potential to create some innovative small-batch whiskies.
