Established in Ådalen, Sweden in 2010, High Coast Distillery was previously known as Box but changed its name in 2018 after blender Compass Box raised issues regarding confusion between the two companies. The distillery sits on the World Heritage site in the High Coast region - hence the new name - alongside the Ångermanälvenin in northern Sweden. It is one of the most northerly whisky distilleries in the world and aims to embrace the unique conditions of the local landscape. They are fast garnering a sterling reputation for their peated and unpeated styles.
From the Box website, ‘The third and last edition in the 2nd Step Collection is a peaty collection of bourbon casks and casks of American and Hungarian virgin oak. It is a whiskey in classic Islay style with a spicy edge of virgin oak, mainly American oak.’
