Sheep Dip 1990 ‘Old Hebridean’
Lot number: 180-02158
Winning bid: £140
In 2005, Alex Nicol - former executive director with numerous drinks giants such as Beefeater Gin, Glenmorangie, and Cadbury Schweppes - decided to set up Spencerfield Spirits with his wife Jane Eastwood in order to produce and sell a selection of blended malts. With the help of Whyte & Mackay master blender, Richard Paterson, Sheep Dip (blended malt), Pig’s Nose (blended Scotch), and the Feathery (Sherry cask-matured blended malt) were all added to the Spencerfield inventory. In 2016, the company was bought by Ian Macleod Distillers with their connected Edinburgh-based distilleries being transferred to the Glengoyne and Tamdhu owners and the blend-makers themselves ceasing business.
A deluxe edition of the popular Sheep Dip blended malt. This is apparently a vatting of Islay and Highland malts (Ardbeg, Dalmore, Fettercairn) distilled in or before 1990 and allowed to marry for over a decade in first fill oak casks.
