Lot number: 180-02773

Winning bid: £60

Ailsa Bay is a Lowland distillery on the Clyde coast looking out towards Ailsa Craig, the Kintyre peninsula and the Isle of Arran. It was founded in 2007 by William Grant & Sons.

Built on the same site as the Girvan grain distillery where the original Ladyburn malt distillery had once stood, up to five different styles of malt whisky are produced there, from sweet and light, to heavier and more sulphury (two stills have steel condensers rather than copper) as well as peated styles up to 50ppm. The eight stills are made according to the same standards as Balvenie’s with a capacity of 12,000,000 litres.

The production is mainly used for Grant’s blended whisky but, they have now released a few different single malts.

48.9% ABV / 70cl
