When Stewart Laing and his sons, Andrew and Scott formed Glasgow-based Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd as a blender and bottler of Scotch Whisky back in 2013, they knew it was finally time to also realise their long held ambition of making their own single malt whisky. With a family background in the whisky trade dating back to the 1940’s, when Stuart’s father founded his own blending and bottling company, Stewart’s own experience in the industry also dates back over 50 years.
Situated on the north east coast of the island near the well-established Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila distilleries, the still room boasts incredible views of Jura across the Sound of Islay. Interestingly, Ardnahoe is equipped with traditional Oregon Pine wash backs, the longest Lyne arms in any Scottish distillery, (7.5M) and they’re also the only distillery on Islay still using wooden worm tubs.
Now that the spirit has been maturing for over 5 years, we are now treated to the first new distillery release since Kilchoman launched its inaugural offering back in 2009.
