Glenugie, based in Peterhead, was the most easterly distillery in Scotland until its closure in 1983 when it was converted into a brewery. The distillery changed hands numerous times during its lifetime and the vast majority of its output was used in blends like Long John with very little bottled as a single malt, however, it did once have a reputation as one of the best distilleries in the north of Scotland. The Glenugie brand name is now owned by Chivas Brothers.
Duncan Taylor & Company presides over the ownership of one of the largest privately-held collections of Scotch whisky casks. Though the company’s origins lie in Glasgow as a whisky merchant and broker, its headquarters are in the North East of Scotland - close to Speyside - and it has complete control of the entire production process; from cask selection and management, through “in-house” product and packaging design to its own “under bond” bottling facilities.
