The 170th Auction
Ends August 10, 2025
A very warm welcome everyone to our now live 170th auction! We have some really fantastic bottles in the auction this month, which always makes it hard to pick out some highlights, but that is a good problem to have I think we can all agree. So, without further ado here are some bottles in this month that we felt were worth shining a light on.
If sweet and heavily sherried whisky is your thing then you can’t do much better than an offering from this gem of a Highland distillery, this is the GlenDronach 1971 43 Year Old Single Cask #2920. From their early days under the stewardship of renowned raconteur James Allardice right through to today this famed distillery has been producing whisky of the highest quality. After spending over four decades ageing this absolute belter of a dram has taken on an invitingly dark hue, and is one of only 523 bottles produced.
Next we have a well-designed and well-travelled rarity which originated on the rugged coast of Islay, this is the Laphroaig 1968 16 Year Old Setante 75cl. Aged for 16 years this fine dram was released into the Italian market by respected importer, Sestante. It’s not every day you get the chance to try a vintage Laphroaig as good as this, so if Islay smoke is your thing, then this is surely a must-have.
Next up we have a well-aged beauty from the Speyside region, this is the Glenrothes 42 Year Old. Often unfairly overlooked for the more glamorous Speyside distilleries Glenrothes has been churning out high quality whisky since its inception in 1879. A beautifully balanced whisky bottled only at the perfect moment, 42 years. Bottled at natural colour, like all Glenrothes whiskies, its naturally deep amber tone is a result of the four decades’ long maturation in oak casks.
And to finish us off we have a superlative expression from the distillery which arguably started the whole single malt boom, this is the Glenfiddich 1967 30 Year Old Vintage Reserve. They were also the first distillery to open their doors to the public, sparking a trend that has undoubtedly benefited the Scottish tourist industry greatly. This dram is something special, a 1967 vintage aged for three decades, and one of only 234 bottles released. No collection can be complete without a really good Glenfiddich, and this is most certainly that.
If these beauties are a tad out of your price range then fear not for we have an enormous selection of drams to suit every budget on offer this month, so now is the time to delve into this month’s offerings and start building that watchlist.
Best of luck to everyone in the auction, and as always………..don’t lose your bottle.
